CORPUS - CORPORA

Corpus is a collection of texts which contains the most frequent words that are used in written and spoken english. Pieces of real language, taken from newspapers, tests, magazines, telephone conversations and so on. At the beginning, texts were written by hand. Nowadays, we know that all the texts are in a computer database, which may store many millions of running words.

Textbooks that are Corpus based, contain real language, which means better learning to the students, because using Corpus includes factors like frequency, register, discourse markers, collocations, etc.

I think the use of Corpus is very important for us. As a teachers we have to know what is better to teach. I mean, we should teach language in order to be natural, spontaneous, real, etc. Moreover, I think that English language at school should be more useful than it is.

To sum up, I can say that Corpus should be included in all the textbooks because in that way learners that are studing english will learn words, chunks, idioms, collocations and so on, things they could apply in real life. Especially if they want to live abroad.
